Reflection

When I take this OJT, I think of many things like 'will be it be ok or will be not?'. I heard from others that being on a OJT will be not that simple. But there are new and good things that you may learn and people you may know. You will not know what will happen each day of your OJT. On the first day of our OJT I am feeling excited at the same time very nervous. But the first day went well, we're oriented well by the HRDU head. The next day we are given our very own employee number that will be used in the biometrics for the time in and time out.
The OJT days went well as it goes by day to day. There are serious times and happy moments as well. I enjoy our time as a trainee. It is for our own good and to be ready in the real world in the future. For me it is a stepping stone in understanding what our work will be in our future in this field.
Working is not easy and not working is also not easy. But I say, I will be more proud to be not easy than not working.

I came late today. I did labeling all the documents here. I was kind of dizzy with all these documents to be labeled. I also sort and checked all the documents if they are in place.

     I checked the segment number of the DHQ and write it in the serology Logbook. Nothing new for today just writing the segment number.

     Here comes the last Monday of our OJT. I am not feeling well today because of the sudden headache that I feel this early morning. The head keeps on aching but I take the medicine so that it will be that much aching. But I managed to edit the UHC requested by Mam Dianelle. I go home early to rest up.

     This day is an addition to my overtime. Today I encoded the donors information in the DHQ. There is silence that roam around the Blood Center because there are only 3 people in this building.

     I imported the data from word to excel because Mam Dianelle is having a hard time computing on the totals. Then I started encoding.

     I photocopied the attendance sheets as Mam Lea said to me. After that, it means that I'm going back to my usual job checking the and writing the segment number of the DHQs in the Sero Logbook. When the Logbook is being borrowed from me because it is needed in the processing, in the mean time I numbered the blood bag stickers. End of the day again for me.

     Today's job for me is checking and rewriting of the segment number of the DHQ. Mam Tina and I returned some of the reagents because it is not the right one, so we need to get the right one.

     Today I assisted Mam Jannish in scanning the letters to the respected mayors of the municipality which has the awardees for the upcoming Dugong Bikol. Then we also got reagents in the supply section. I remember I also write the blood types in the DHQ. Then back to checking the Segment number.

      Today is the day for our defense of the 70% of our system. I'm very nervous but as time goes by it is gone.

     We need to work on our system. Tomorrow is the checking or the defense of the 70% of the system. It is a bad day for me because I have a headache but I need to do the system.

     Today I am going to be working half day. I need to do something this afternoon. Again the job for me is checking the DHQs' segment number.

     We need to work overtime because our hours, as we computed, is a little short. We need to make it in time before the October 18 deadline. Today it is all about checking the Donors' segment number. It is a little silent because of the less staff.

     We are all laughing when Ma'am Tina mock Sir Cielbert because of his dancing of the song Whoops Kirri. It is so funny. After that back to checking of the DHQ's Segment number.

     Since the Serology logbook is being used, I numbered the blood bag stickers. I numbered about 200 pieces in the mean time. The Serology logbook is back! Starting again of the checking of the serial numbers. End of the day again. :)

     Ow, my neck aches, it because of the way I sleep last night but I need to do my job. DHQs here we go again. Another batch of the DHQs to be checked. Sometimes there is silence but sometimes there is also laughing all around the office.

     To start the day, I got the forms for the BRBC in the Transport Section. To break the silence in the Blood Center, Ma'am Tina told a story about some funny act her friend did. It is very funny I swear :-D. Then back to checking of the DHQ.

     It's a good morning to start the day and also the week. The checking the DHQs is a welcoming job for this morning. I need to exercise. The papers on the printer jammed so need to check it. Meanwhile in the other printer, the cartridge didn't work.

     I checked the segment number of the donors this whole day. Some donors didn't have segment number because their are either incomplete or deferred.

     I accomplished so many things for this day. Checking the attendance of the training in donor recruitment held in Villa Angelina, Legazpi City is the first. Even though it is not yet finished I checked and written some of the Serology number in the forms of the donors to the logbook. Editing and printing the certificates of the participants in the training that I mentioned earlier. Oh before that I changed the ink of the printer. And other little things that i do.

     Same job as yesterday, checking the segment number in the form and writing it in the Serology Logbook. I just finished the Logbook(A) last week I think, I didn't remember it.

     I checked the segment number of the donors for the whole 8 hours. Some forms have no segment number so it is not needed to be written in the logbook. End of the day again.

     Checking the segment number of the donors from the Serology Logbook(A) is my only job for today. The other forms of the donor have no segment number so it is not that easy to check. I think the others are deffered and incomplete.

     I numbered the blood bag stickers, about 225 pieces of them. And also I prepare the needed items for the MBD in the next day. It is Friday, so it means we need to attend the flag retreat. And before I forget I also checked the blood type of the donors.

     As for today I number the blood bag stickers as I usually do. I help Ma'am Dyanelle in things in relationship with the Training for Donor Recruitment in Villa Angelina in Albay. I checked the Pre-Test of the participant. I also summarized the survey of the Venue and Services Rendered by them if the Participants like it or not. About 30 participants attended the Training.

    Since there is no one that will encode the donor's information, I do it as Ma'am Lea said. But I only encoded for 3 hours only. It means back to numbering blood bag stickers for me. Oh, I also check the serial no. and the blood type.

     Today was a self test whether I am productive in numbering blood bag stickers or not. I targeted to number about 400 pieces of blood bag stickers for this day. I luckily finish it before 5:00 o'clock. This is only for today because numbering is my only job for this day :-D

     Today I definitely have two major job and it is numbering of blood bag stickers and checking the segment number of donors on the Serology Logbook(C). I have numbered about 150 of the blood bag stickers.

     Today is one big busy day because of the upcoming Sandugo Awards which will be tomorrow. First we arrange the page of the official list of awardees for Luzon and Visayas. Then a little rest and we prepare the needed things like the souvenirs, t-shirts and other things. So many things to be prepared for so many participants, there are approximately 500 person attending the Awarding.

     I am absent yesterday because of a sudden headache. Anyway, today I keep on numbering the blood bag stickers. Also I done filing the NVBSP Manual which is the system for the Blood Bank in the whole country. I also corrected the certificate for the Sandugo Awards.

     Checking the segment number of the donors is my only job for today. We haven't go to work yesterday because it is a holiday. I check the segment number in the serology logbook (c). Tomorrow will be starting for our intramural so we will be absent for about three days but before that we submit excuse letter so that Staff will know.

     I have been numbering the blood bag stickers this day. Numbering is my job for this week aside from scanning. I and Jashper come with Ma'am Dyanelle to the Supplies Section to get the triple blood bags to be used in the future MBds. We both take 2 boxes with us.

     Another batch of Blood bag stickers for me to be numbered. Aside from numbering I scanned the hotel tariffs like villa amada tariffs and etc. to be send to Ma'am Jannish through e-mail which has been traveling for some important reasons. The said tariffs will be the reference of ma'am Jannish for the Sandugo Awards.

     Today I started again to number the blood bag stickers. I think I number 200 pieces of them. And I scanned the ROO or the Regional Office Order to be send to the PHTO of every province here in Bicol Region.

     This day I am encoding again. To many data to be encoded. In the mean time when I am not encoding I am numbering the blood bag stickers because it is needed to be prepared before the MBD staff pick it up for MBD for the next day.

     Today I check the blood type of the donors.It is to ensure that the blood type according to them is right based on the logbook. It is easy to check or rather to track the blood type as long as their blood is not deferred. I check about 400 of them.

     Okay, another encoding day for me. Sometimes Ma'am Lea encode the information. While she encode, I am writing the serial numbers of the blood stickers.

     Nothing new for this day. Here I am encoding again many information. But as time goes on, encoding has become one of my everyday habit as if it is normal for me. There are many donors for today, many of them will donate for either their relatives or their friend.

     Another week to encode the unfinished information. I am so far away from finishing all of these. I'm working on the month of April since the information for March are finished.

     In this morning, I prepare the needed items for the MBD like blood bag stickers, collection tubes, etc. In the afternoon, back to encoding again but for this day I only encoded about 80 of them.

     First day of the month of August but I'm not still finished with the donors' information for  the month of March. In the Morning, I labeled the blood stickers. It is about two hundred of them. After labeling I continue with encoding. In the afternoon, we didn't go our departments because we need to complete our grades for one of our subject. Unfortunately we didn't complete it this day maybe tomorrow so we need to be absent.

     I've not yet finished with the month of March. There's a lot more to encode. Sometimes I numbered the blood bag stickers so that it is not only encoding that I am doing.

     First day of the week again. There's a lot of information to be encode that awaits me. I think for this week I will be busy encoding for the month of March because it is very thick. Today I encoded approximately 150 donors.

     Today is Wednesday, it means that we are not included in the wash day of BU. Same job from the previous days, encoding. I think that I will spend many hours for this. I only finished half for the month of March and for the Month of April is reserved for next week.

     Today I prepare the needed items for the MBD like the collection tubes and the stickers. They said that there will be 30 donors expected. After preparing the needed items I return to encoding the donors' information. Mam Jannish said that it is very important to encode the informations.

     We attended the flag ceremony. Then we go to our assigned area. I continued last week's unfinished encoding of data of the donors. Nothing new for today.

     Today is our scheduled Proposal re-defense so we come to DOH in the morning only. I write the Donor's Blood type in their Donor information sheet. After writing, I resume my work on encoding data.

     Today is a one busy day for the staffs of BRBC. They are all engaged in the MBDs of barangays. Today is the World Donors Day so it is anticipated that there will be more donations, one of the Blood donation events was held at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City. But for us ojt it is necessary to do our usual work. I prepared the things needed like violet and yellow tubes, stickers and etc. by Mam Dianelle in the MBD at the Mater Salutis in Sipi, Daraga, Albay. End of the day.

     Nothing for today just the usual job, encoding. We are only allowed to encode the data for donors because encoding the data for patients is the job of the medical technicians as stated in their SOP.

     Another day for my OJT. As usual my job is to encode the data of Donors. This day I encode many data of donors for November and December. I realize that it was tiring to encode much data but its my job so I didn't complain. End of the day.

     Today was a different day because I am assigned to write the code or numbers for the sticker of the blood. Because the number printed in the sticker is fading as the time goes by and because of the temperature inside the Blood Refrigerator. I numbered about 350 pieces. End of the again.

     As usual during Monday we attended the Flag Ceremony and the General Assembly. This day I encoded many data for Donors for the month of October. End of the day.

     Feeling excited to finish the November BRFs. Oh, a little exercise for my fingers. A lot of time are needed to finished the much thicker November BRFs. I finished my day without finishing the November BRFs. We don't have a work tomorrow in DOH because of our Proposal Defense.

     Busy people all around you and I were also busy doing the same job like yesterday. Encoding... Encoding... Encoding.... :) I've finished the patients' data for the month of September. October 2012 Blood Request Form here I come. October 2012 BRFs are much thicker than the September. Half of the October 2012 BRFs were just finished. There were a lot to come tomorrow so better rest for now.

     As usual during Monday we attend the Flag Ceremony at 8:00 am. The weekly General Assembly of the DOH is the second that we must attend. It is a special GA because the Regional Director of the DOH-CHD, Madam Gloria Balboa, is also attending. The GA finished about 10:30 am because of the important things that the RD should discuss since it is ISO. After that is the usual thing that I do, encoding of the necessary data/information of the patient who requested for blood for the month of September.
    What a busy encoding day for me but a learning experience also. This will enhance my encoding skills. My   day ends without finishing the September 2012 Blood Request Forms.

     This will be a busy day for me again. Instead of inputting data for patients, Mam Lea assigned me to input data for donors. I input the donors information for the month of October and November. There are many volunteer donors. I also write the numbers for the sticker of the blood as a mark. This week gave me the experience that I need, doing office works and familiarizing with the process and jobs that are done in the BRBC.

     Time in again. Inputting/Encoding the necessary information of the patient is again my job to do. Today I will input the information of the patients for the month of August 2012. There are new patients and regular patients as well. Weew, rest for at least 5 minutes. Sir Sonny said that I should walk around a bit. Okay here comes the lunch break break. Then resumes on 1:00 pm, encoding again. Time out again.

     Second day of OJT. Time in using the biometrics. And going to HRDU because Mam Rivera will give us the department or unit that we are assign with. Me and Jahsper Mendoza were assigned to the BRBC/Blood Bank. Mam Alcala, the head of BRBC introduced us to her staffs. Sir Sonny gave me a work to do. Inputting the required information of the patient who requested for blood into the program/software for holding large number of info.

      This is first day of our OJT here in DOH-CHD BICOL. First things first, we attend the Flag Ceremony at 8 o'clock in the morning. After attending the flag ceremony we attend also the General Assembly of all the DOH heads and employees which was held during Monday after the flag ceremony to discuss the updates of every department or units of the DOH. Orientation w/ Madam Susan Rivera, RN of the HRDU gave us the do's and don'ts during the working time and about things that are prohibited. Exploring the place and familiarizing the staff and heads of the DOH is one thing that we've done. Then we got employee number that we could use on the time in and time out.
